Real estate

Commercial property: acquisitions, disposals, leases and the questions that arise around them.

The chapter

What we advise on

  • Acquisitions and disposals
  • Commercial leases
  • Property disputes

Acquisitions and disposals

We act for businesses buying and selling commercial property: investigating title, negotiating the contract and seeing the transaction through to completion and registration.

Commercial leases

A lease often outlasts the people who agreed it. We advise landlords and tenants on new leases, renewals, assignments and the terms on rent, repair and alteration that will matter years later.

Property disputes

Where questions arise over arrears, dilapidations, possession or the meaning of a lease, we advise on the position and work towards a resolution, whether by agreement or before a court.

How we work

Property is usually a means to an end: a place to trade, an asset to hold or a site to develop. We start with what the business needs the property to do, and advise on the terms that serve that purpose.

A partner leads each matter and is the person the client speaks to. Where a property question forms part of a wider transaction or dispute, colleagues from those chapters work on it with us on Chancery Lane.
