Employment
Advice for employers on contracts, workforce change and the disputes that sometimes follow.
What we advise on
- Contracts and policies
- Restructuring and workforce change
- Employment disputes
Contracts and policies
Clear terms prevent most difficulties. We draft and review contracts of employment, terms for senior staff and the policies that set out how a workplace is run, so that both sides know where they stand.
Restructuring and workforce change
Reorganising a business, changing terms or reducing a workforce must be done fairly and in the right order. We advise on the process, the consultation it requires and the communication that goes with it.
Employment disputes
When a working relationship ends in disagreement, we advise employers on their position, on negotiated exits and settlement, and on claims brought before the employment tribunal.
How we work
Employment questions are about people, and they are often sensitive. A partner leads each matter and deals directly with the directors and managers who must make the decision.
We give advice that can be acted on: what the law requires, what the risks are, and what a sensible employer would do next. Where a quiet conversation will resolve a matter better than a formal process, we will say so.
When employment questions arise within a transaction or a dispute, we work alongside colleagues from those chapters on Chancery Lane.
